To promote cross-country motor racing, Regent Racing and the SA Cross Country Motor Racing Championship use celebrities. The most recent addition to the off-road sport promoters is Heinz Winckler. His racing vehicle was personalized by Graffiti.
Celebrities as draw card
The Regent Racing Team and the SA Cross Country Motor Racing Championship have hosted five celebrities as part of Imperial Automotive Celebrity Challenge. This is in an effort to market cross-country motor racing to a wider audience.
Entertainer and former Idols SA winner Heinz Winckler was co-driver with ex-South African Champion Archie Rutherford at the opening round of The Donaldson Cross Country Motor Racing Championship in the Magaliesburg area earlier this month.
Vehicle branding
Branding and transit media company Graffiti, as the team’s vehicle branding sponsor, was used to personalise Winckler’s car – a Racing Nissan Navara.
Celebrity marketing creates hype
Regent Racing Team Principal Terence Marsh says the inclusion of the well-known South African personalities has done a great deal to generate hype and interest in cross-country motor racing.
Winckler is the first entertainer to join high profile sports personalities such as Fanie de Villiers, Jonty Rhodes, Stefan Terblanche and Natalie du Toit, among others.
The celebrity draw card for the next celebrity race on 12 and 13 April is Roxy Louw.
