Brand South Africa in partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) IDC, FNB, Multichoice and Old Mutual invite media to an Industry 4.0 workshop on 07 March 2019, which will be used as a platform for business to discuss Africa’s readiness to adapt to the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
Brand South Africa’s involvement at WEF Davos dates back to 2009, and the platform has become a regular strategic engagement on Team South Africa’s calendar, that is utilised for driving the inward investment agenda and boosting the country’s brand visibility on a global scale.
In 2018 – the South African government and WEF announced the launch of an Industry 4.0 Centre in South Africa for Africa, which aims to bring together business leaders, governments start-ups, civil society, academia and international organisations, to co-design and pilot innovative approaches to policy and governance in the 4IR era. From a policy and country positioning perspective, this means an opportunity to gather industry insight on where strengths and weaknesses lie for South Africa and the continent.
Consequently, the workshop’s theme will be ‘Responding to the Emergence and Impact of the 4IR’, with a key objective of interrogating the ‘African Digital Economy’ in order to establish what Industry 4.0 is and to unpack its implications for government, business, and society at large.
