Ideal Displays’ holding company Ideal Engineering was established in 1991 as a sheet metal, boiler making and general engineering company. Expanding its offering to include displays in the mid-2000s, the company says it now has in excess of 40% of the market. General Manager Heindrich Wucherpfennig describes some salient facts that have put the company in this position.
Infrastructure important
With origins in engineering, the company has the correct infrastructure to design and manufacture steel metal to client specifications. In fact, its website boasts: “…will be able to assist clients in new and inventive products…”
“We had been in business for more than a decade,” says Heindrich, “when in 2004 we decided to include a niche offering and Ideal Displays was born.
Company focus
Ideal Displays is a portable display system manufacturing company which designs and manufactures a variety of print-related indoor and outdoor display systems used, primarily, for promotions and marketing events.
In-house expertise beneficial
“Having Ideal Engineering at the top of the pyramid,” Heindrich points out, “enables us to produce everything in-house.” In fact, not only does the company employ its own designers, but metal milling; powder coating; and structural assembling are done in-house too. Curbing turnaround time, printing is done on the same premises.
Substantial offering
As part of its vision – ‘to achieve the status of being the largest manufacturer and supplier of both local and international in the branding, portable display and signage sectors’ – the company’s aim is to ‘take each task, big or small, on its own merit and complete it to the expectations of quality, price and timeline’. “Our vision is obtainable and we continually strive to meet it,” Heindrich says. This sentiment underpinned by the fact that the company owns more than 21 large format digital printers enabling it to provide competitively-based prices at fast turn-around times.
SABS quality
“We pride ourselves on quality, service and turn-around time,” Heindrich reiterates, “and we put our money where our mouth is!” This statement is borne out by the fact that Ideal offers a factory warranty on all its display systems; steel components and workmanship; and quality control to SABS standards is practiced.
Market share
The company claims to have as much as 40% to 50% market share. This seems plausible when one takes into account the engineering business’ contribution in facilitating the manufacture of its display systems combined with its CSI initiative. The latter is derived, in part, from the company’s vision which includes wanting to be the stepping stone for promotions, signage and signage-related companies that might need their range of services to grow the potential of the outside market.
