McCain says thanks to a wonderful mom

McCain South Africa has been focused on helping children say thank you to moms for all the little things they do for us that mean everything. Moms are the unsung heroes of our everyday lives, they always know exactly what to do or say to make us feel better and do so many little things for us. For Zama, a grade 8 learner at Forte Secondary School in Soweto, it is the little things like the special morning notes her mom writes for her or the secret packet of cheese Doritos that her mom surprises her with that means everything to her.

The McCain team first met Zama, during one of their school activations where she had written an essay about her mom. The team loved hearing about all the little things that Zama’s mom does for her, those silly little things that we would generally take for granted but that mean so much to this little girl. The team knew they needed to help Zama say thank you to her mom.

The McCain team together with Zama planned the whole surprise, including finding the perfect spot for the special surprise lunch, a beautiful garden. The table was set and Zama and the McCain chef spent the morning cooking her mom’s favourite dish, fish with salad and McCain Savoury Rice. “My mom is a great cook and she taught me how to make this fish. The first time I tried to make it, I burnt it so badly that we couldn’t even eat it. I was really upset but she encouraged me to keep trying and helped me do it the right way. I’m so happy that I could make it for her surprise lunch and show her that I can now cook it perfectly,” says Zama.

The big moment finally arrived and Zama went to fetch her mom, Nthabiseng, and brought her to the beautifully set table in the garden. The delicious meal was served on a one of a kind plate that McCain had made for the occasion which had a special message on it from Zama to her mom. As Nthabiseng ate, the message was revealed, “You are the best thing in my whole life. I love you mom!”.

“I was so speechless, I didn’t know what to say except thank you for making me feel so special. I’ve never had anything like this done for me and I feel so loved,” said Nthabiseng.

McCain would like to encourage you to thank your mom for all the little things she does for you that mean everything. This doesn’t have to be a huge gesture, it could be as simple as cooking a meal, making her a cup of tea or just giving her a hug and just saying thank you.
