Eight Ways to Win with a Product Launch

To celebrate the launch of Cadbury Dairy Milk’s new #WonderFilledBubbles theSQUAD Creative Events worked with our client Plato Communications to bring their idea of a Bubbly Oreo Museum of Joy and Wonder to life. We love sharing what we learned from the job, so here are eight ways to win new customers by creating an unforgettable product launch.

1. Invite Influencers: Have a guest list of people who can spread the good news about your product. In our case, Plato Communications invited the media and food bloggers and created an event hashtag that was easy for attendees to share on social media.

2. Choose the right venue: Find a space that lets you “play”; where there’s room to make your product the hero of the venue. We wanted to go quirky and memorable (we usually do), so Sally Mustang, Mistress of Ink Tattoo Parlour was a good choice.

3. Make memories: Guests will remember the product and event if you help them have maximum fun and create memories. VIP Photo Booth South Africa created a fabulous Bubbles photo area and found fun and exciting ways to interact with the product, the guests loved it.

4. MC Magic: Have a charismatic person oversee the proceedings and help keep things running along smoothly. This launch had Anele Mdoda handling the proceedings and she suited the Cadbury brand essence perfectly: very popular and bubbly.

5. Music Matters: Putting a soundtrack to your event is important, and goes back to the making it “fun” and “memorable” points. Bad Wolf was the band for the night with surprise performances from Martin Rocka, Louise Carverand PJ Powers. PJ was a hit!

6.Life-Size Product: Guests should have a full “product immersion” experience, so be creative and showcase your product with the help of props. Chocolate Brown, Oreo Turquoise, Cadbury Purple and White balloons throughout the venue helped create the sense of being transported away on Cadbury bubbles. If you’re looking for balloons, Tanya at The Pop will go out of her way to create the most magical balloon installations.

7. Product Museum: What better way to pay homage to your product than create an actual museum for it? It was great to have such creative leadership from Plato Communications who had the inspired idea of bubbly Oreo chocolate bars as showcase pieces for guests.  These were to taste alongside the celebrity displays which told of their own stories of Joy and Wonder throughout their careers.

8. Bespoke Menu: Find food that fits what you’re launching so the theme runs through the event. Hashtag Hot Caterers created a sublime menu for Oreo bubbles – but that’s a separate article in itself. Suffice to say, we also had an “experience room’ which included a wall filled with Oreo sand, pops of vanilla brûlé, sand clogs of Cadburys bubble, candied orange, fresh berries and hidden mint caviar pearls.
