An initiative by Eskom called 49M which “aims to inspire and rally all South Africans behind the common goal of saving electricity” is being marketed through social media and RFID.
Road show garners interest
The 49M team embarked on a country-wide activation road show to educate and encourage South Africans to pledge their commitment towards saving electricity.
RFID photo stations
Among several promotional activities used, Liquid Lemon’s RFID powered photo stations were used for public to interact with the 49M brand.
How it worked
Users were given RFID enabled Wristbands which was registered to their Facebook profiles. Then they only needed to swipe their wristbands at the various photo stations, have their photo taken and it was instantly uploaded to their Facebook page as well as the 49M official Facebook fan page.
49M and RFID
*49M, the Eskom initiative, is so-called as it encompasses government; Eskom; big industry and commercial players; and all South Africans – about 49 million of us.
*RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification and is the use of a wireless non-contact system that uses radio-frequency electromagnetic fields to transfer data from a tag attached to an object, for the purposes of automatic identification and tracking.
