The University of Pretoria’s campus radio station Tuks FM now offers more reach thanks to an extended signal strength.

Reaching Pretoria and beyond

Tuks FM has extended its signal strength to 1kW, which means its signal is now extended to all of Pretoria and surrounding areas, as well as the greater Johannesburg area.

Tuks FM broadcasts in English and Afrikaans, has a listenership of approximately 46 000 (SAARF – RAMS Feb 2013), with female (40%) and male (60%) between the ages of 15-18 (8%), 19-24 (41%), 25-34 (42%) and 35+ (9%).

The station targets a universal cosmopolitan audience, comprising people between the ages of 15 and 35, irrespective of race, sex, culture or beliefs. It has an extensive mix of pop-rock music complimented by informative content including news, sport and ‘infotainment’.

Social media following

“We have a Facebook following of +47,500, and the 6th most ‘Likes’ on Facebook compared to all other radio stations in South Africa, including commercial stations,” says Station Manager Loutjie van der Merwe. “We also have +12,000 followers on Twitter, and 55,000 YouTube video views.”

A multiple media marketing platform

“Tuks FM’s multiple media marketing platform facilitates opportunities for product activation, on-air advertising, events and sponsorships. The station offers marketers and advertisers the opportunity to utilise the power of community radio to target the student and young adult market in Gauteng,” says The Media Connection Director Judy Milne.

Tuks FM won numerous awards in 2012 including Campus Station Of The Year – MTN Radio Awards.
